In addition to the weekly class, this six week session includes at least 6 hours of open studio (two open studio shifts), and 3 hours of glazing (one glazing shift) per week, all by reservation. The open studio hours are meant to provide you time to practice the skills you learn in class.

6 Week Intermediate Hand Building. -Tuesdays 10:00-1:00PM Instructor Given McClure

This is a project-based class for those who are experienced with basic hand building techniques, and are using these techniques intuitively. Given will teach this class as a mentor and guide for students to see their ideas come to life.

This independent-study style class provides opportunities for artists to dive deep into their own practice, while being inspired by the mentors and other artists in the room. Given will provide suggestions, offer critiques, feedback, and inspiration for artists. Given will work with students individually to spark ideas and help you expand your skills.

Demonstrations of specific techniques will be given on case-by-case basis and will be tailored for individual students’ needs.

Intermediate Wheel - Tuesday 6-9:00PM Instructor Given McClure de Sanchez

This six week session includes one three hour class a week, taught by Given McClure de Sanchez every Tuesday night 6:00-9:00pm, and 6 open studio hours throughout the week.

This class will focus on making functional objects from start to finish. We will talk about important process considerations starting with clay from the block and continue through the glazing and firing of the pieces. Given will talk about many fundamentals that may have been overlooked in your process. Given will offer many helpful hints and tricks he uses to get objects successfully through the work flow stages. We will focus on proper wheel techniques, proper handling and drying of greenware, proportions as it relates to shrinkage and safe drying, glazing for gas and soda kilns, and much more. If you want to tighten up what you’ve learned thus far, this class is for you.

Advanced wheel (Specific subject focus to be announced) - Taught by Scott Proctor Fridays 6:00-9:00 PM

This six week session includes one three hour class a week. Every Friday evening 6:00pm-9:00pm, and open studio hours throughout the week.

This is a class for intermediate/advanced throwers that want to dive deeply into a specific category of forms. For the next several sessions this class will focus on a different advanced throwing form or concern. Students can continue on session to session gaining new skills and forms as you progress.

Demonstrations of specific techniques will be given every class period.

In addition to the weekly class, this six week session includes 6 hours of open studio (two open studio shifts), and 3 hours of glazing (one glazing shift) a week, all by reservation. Each class will have up to ten students plus the instructors.

A prerequisite for our “open studio package” is 1st taking a class at ESPS to get familiar with our procedures, kilns, and glazes.

This is for those who have experience working with clay and would benefit most from open studio time, rather than a guided class. This is for those of you that have already taken a class with us here at ESPS and know our operating procedures. Instruction and demonstrations from ESPS staff will be very minimal.

You will reserve studio time via the ESPS google doc, in three hour time slots

up to 9 hours a week of open studio time and 3 hours of glaze time each week.

Use of our 40+ glazes

Access to all shop tools.

Includes bisque firings, low & mid electric firings, regular cone 10 gas firings

6 Week Work From Home

$280.00

A prerequisite for our “work from home package” is 1st taking a class at ESPS to get familiar with our procedures, kilns, and glazes.

This is a great option for those who have experience working with clay, and who have a home studio setup. Maybe you have our own wheel or you are a hand builder, and need a place to bisque fire and glaze your work. We offer greenware drop-off weekly for bisque. Then, you will reserve hours to use our glaze lab, and/or glaze at home for our low/mid-range electric kilns.

Weekly greenware drop off.

Up to 3 hours of glaze time/week with access to all 40+ shop glazes and shop glaze tools.

Glazing hours will be reserved on the ESPS google doc sign up sheet. Four people glazing at time. The glaze room is not climate controlled.
